A really good friend of mine was telling about some of his family back east. There are really devout Christians and they disassociate themselves with the rest of the family because they do not belong to the same church nor live the life style they want them to live. This always makes me think of the bumper stickers of "WWJD" (What would Jesus Do?). Let me add in, What would Jesus think? So we have family who is passing judgement on the other part of the family...is this Christianity? If they are not going to church, is that a sin against me or you? If they get a tattoo, is that a sin against you or me? If they drink to much, live in sin, etc.; are these sins against me or you? Are they not sins against God? Are we the ones who will sit in judgement, or is it Jesus? So why would they ostracize there own flesh and blood? I believe it is a comfort issue.
These are the kind of people who wish to surround themselves with like minded people to feel secure in their beliefs. When Jesus preached he did not go back to the same crowd over and over, he went on to different crowds in different towns. He did not say to the crowd, "sinners leave". He welcome these people, sinners and non-sinners a like.
